Supervising philosophy essay
Hi!
As I mentioned in my CAS Profile, I find great interest in philosophy. In school, I take part in weekly additional classes where we discuss different philosophers and their thoughts. To expand my knowledge and improve skills, I took part in philosophy competition Olimpiada Filozoficzna last year and got into the second stage out of three. This year I also decided to take part and hope to get into the last stage!
As a part of this content, I had to prepare a long essay concering one of the topic prepared by the PTF, the organisation running it. This year, apart from taking part myself, I am supervising the essay of one of the girls from grade 1, Laura. Because it is her first time participating in anything like this and the beginning of her journey with philosophy, she told me she felt a bit lost and unsure. With my skills, I can help her and give her some useful tips which is what the content organizators encourage. Here I will be posting our progress and my reflection on the whole process.
In the last two weeks, I had two conversations with Laura concering her essay and the choice of topic - when does democracy lead to populism. We talked about her approach to the subjects, her thoughts on it and how she can seek reliable sources to use while writing the essay. I definitely feel like this process will develop both my knowledge and communication skills. I also think that because of our converastions I am expanding my point of view and finding out many fascinating things about the topic and how different people percieve it.
